News 12 New Jersey
Early this morning, Tony Caputo reported live from the front of our Garwood School regarding Garwood’s Board of Education passing of the resolution that rejected specific sex ed curriculum components mandated by the state. There has been a renewed interest in the media because of the New Jersey Department of Education’s recent announcement Tuesday that school districts which do not use the state’s new sex education curriculum will face disciplinary action.
Garwood’s Own
Garwood’s own Salvatore Piarulli was interviewed by Tony Caputo of News 12 live on the air in front of our school. Salvatore is the Board of Ed member who wrote the resolution and made it clear in speaking with News 12, that he spoke for himself and not the Garwood Board of Education.
"Parents here don't want it. Any adult who thinks that it's OK to teach this stuff in the classroom should never be near any children,” said Piarulli.
"I’m not worried about it because we worded it correctly to make sure that we have no unethical ramifications,” said Garwood BOE member Sal Piarulli.
NJ DOE Response
News 12 reached out to the state DOE for more specifics on what disciplinary action might entail.
There was no response to that question.
Instead, the Board of Education reiterated its review and evaluation standards, insisting districts meet 80% of the new curriculum standards.

It is great to see strong pushback to these reprehensible standards. Sunlight is the best disinfectant so the more attention this gets the better. The state keeps gaslighting us from what I have seen and heard. Please keep pushing so the truth is exposed.
