This past Thursday night, on New Jersey 101.5 there was a public Town Hall regarding the Sex Ed standards and curriculums. Eric Scott hosted the special that was broadcasted live on Facebook Live and on nj1015.com
The show was advertised as:
“Scott will lead a diverse panel of educators, community activists, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and child behavioral experts.
The program will examine what is being taught in New Jersey schools, how parents can access specific lesson plans, and how to talk about sensitive issues to their children.” - Townsquare Staff
“There has been a significant amount of misinformation spread about what will be taught at each grade level,” program host Eric Scott said. “We want to empower parents with the facts they need to make informed decisions.”
The host and the majority of the guests were in support of the controversial 2020 CHPE Learning Standards with two parent exceptions.
Garwood’s own Salvatore Piarulli (Garwood Board of Education) was a part of the panel and made it clear he was NOT speaking on behalf of the Garwood BOE. Sal was met with resistance and pushback from the other panel members who didn’t agree with his views. The discussion became heated at times, but valid points were made.
NJ Fresh Faced Schools co-admin Kristen Sinclair (a Board of Education candidate in Medford) joined the panel approximately 40 minutes in and met the same resistance Sal had. Kristen made some great points and remained calm as the discussion carried on.
I listened to this live. I felt Eric Scott was somewhat biased and he harped on the “well you can opt out if you don’t like it” excuse. Sal and Kristen were great. I would love to know if Sal ever got the “data” from one of the other guests. If you listened closely basically their view is that parents are not qualified to handle these topics and thus the “educators” must fill the gap. When they get all the kids reading and doing math at grade level then they can call me to talk anal sex discussions with underage kids.
